What is Fat Tuesday?

Fat Tuesday means, “Mardi Gras” in French. Fat Tuesday lands on the day before the Catholic holiday named, “Ash Wednesday”. Fat Tuesday or Mardi Gras is the Carnival period between Epiphany and Ash Wednesday. Some groups consider the final 3 day period before Ash Wednesday Mardi Gras. In the United States Mardi Gras is most decoratively celebrated in the city of New Orleans, Louisiana where it is a legal holiday. But Mardi Gras is an even celebrated all over the world.

In the past 2 centuries the only times that Fat Tuesday was not celebrated was during the 2 World Wars.
