The city of Los Angles is offering a $500, 000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the Grim Sleeper serial killer. The Grim Sleeper kills by a .35-caliber gun shot or strangulation, in a few cases both. Most of the time he kills after some sort of sexual contact. The police have linked murders to the killer since 1985 where he went on for a 2 year killing spree. Then all of a sudden the killings stopped, for years. Then during the 90s, police suspect as early as 2002 he the killing started back up again. The large gap between the 80s and 90s murders where he remained dormant is the reason for his nickname, Grim Sleeper (given to him by the LA Weekly newspaper). His latest killing happened on in January 2007.

Police are investigating 30 unsolved but similar killings for a possible link to the Grim Sleeper. Detectives have a DNA sample of the killer but have not found any matches in their database. There was one victim who survived in 1988 that described the Grim Reaper. She said he was in his 30s with chiseled features, sporting a short afro and had on a black polo shirt. He was driving an orange Ford Pinto. Police said the victim was so traumatized they are not sure how accurate the victims account is. The killer targets black women in lower class Los Angeles neighborhoods.
