Last Wednesday, a federal judge James Zegel sentenced former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich to 14 years in prison for 18 counts of corruption. Blagojevich gave a dramatic apology to his state, his family and the judge, in which he said he is “unbelievably sorry,” before the sentence was given.

Ex-governor Blagojevichwas convited back in June after the jury found him guilty for trying to sell the U.S. Senate seat that Barack Obama vacated. This includes bribery and extortion. The impeached governor reports to prison on February 16.

Blagojevich must start serving his prison term within 90 days. Aside from that, the judge also ordered for a $20,000 fine. He will be spending the remainder of his time as a free man with his Patti, his wife, and their two young daughters. At least he’ll be able to spend a final birthday and Christmas with his family. He will turn 55 on Saturday. The former governor won’t be eligible for release for about 12 years.
