Barbie Bandits
February 20th, 2009 by Mike

One of the alleged “Barbie Bandits” Heather Johnston, nineteen, appeared in Cobb County Superior Court on Wed. , and made a plea of guilty to 2 charges — burglary by taking, a felony, and marijuana possession, a misdemeanor. Johnston and one of her co-defendants became called the Barbie Bandits as they looked like sorority girls, not the typical bank thieves. Yet Johnston faces up to 10 years in jail for committing the crime.

“If I’ve embarrassed you or hurt you, which I know I have, I’m sorry, and I love you guys so much,” Johnston said on the stand. She told Judge Mary Staley that she never thought about the implications of her actions when she took part in a highly visible bank heist back in Feb.
Johnston sobbed as she made a statement, “If I could take it back, go back to that day and start over, I might definitely never do that again.”. “If I’ve embarrassed you or hurt you, which I know I have, I’m sorry, and I love you guys so much,” Johnston said on the stand. She informed the judge that she never thought what could be the negative outcome for her actions when she robbed the bank this February. Surveillance cameras recorded Heather smiling during the bank robbery. “It’s not funny what I did at all,” Johnston said. “If I could take it back, go back to that day and start over, I would definitely never do that again.”

She later confessed to the police that a bank teller helped her out with insider information about the bank as she planned the robbery with her pal Ashley Miller.

Her mother Lisa Johnston told the judge Heather has turned her life around since the arrest. She described her as intelligent and hard-working. “It’s not what you see on TV, that’s not her. It was the drugs,” Johnston said. Heather stated that she doesn’t want to go jail — and made a promise that it would never happen again.

She later told police they put together real plans quickly — with help from an insider, a bank teller who told Johnston and her chum, Ashley Miller, where to head to find him and what to draft on their demand note.

Lisa Johnston informed the judge her daughter has turned her life around since her arrest. “It’s not what you see on the T. V. , that isn’t her. “It’s not the person I would like to be any more. The judge made a decision to delay sentencing till after the three others who are charged of this crime appear in trial. Until that day Heather will remain a free woman. While she is free there is a mandatory drug testing and she must wear an ankle monitor at all times.
