After announcing back in October that she has breast cancer, E! host Guiliana Rancic has decided to undergo a double mastectomy after learning that other treatments didn’t get all the cancer out. This is a drastic and controversial decision. Women with breast cancer choosing to have both breasts removed isn’t a popular option, yet.

Earlier today on the TODAY show, she told anchor Ann Curry: ” I’m going to go ahead and move forward with a double mastectomy.”  Bill Rancic, her husband, accompanied her on the TODAY show to make this announcement. Bill said that their decision wasn’t made lightly. The doctors have told them that they had a choice.

“If I had chosen to just do another lumpectomy and then do radiation and then do anti-estrogen therapy, which means two to five years of medication, that basically puts me into early menopause, then I would have to put off having a baby for several years,” Rancic said on TODAY.

It is public knowledge that Guiliana, 37, and Bill, 40, have been trying to get a baby. She was getting an IVF treatment when they first discovered the cancer. Their decision on doing the double mastectomy just goes to show how bad the couple wants to have a baby.

Bill’s presence in this announcement shows how much he’s supportive of Guiliana, and of course, how much he loves her. Guiliana admits that she wouldn’t have done it without Bill by her side. She also tells what Bill told her that made her decision final.

Watch how Guiliana and her husband Bill make the announcement on the TODAY show.  You’ll see how despite of everything, the couple stays happy and together.
